Breakfast - yes or no?

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, however the perks of eating a healthy breakfast have been overhyped. I have had clients who just cannot eat in the morning, telling me how nervous they were to come to see me because they thought I would tell them they had to eat breakfast.

Observational studies have shown that people who skip breakfast have a higher BMI, however other studies have also shown that personal preference is an important factor. If you are a breakfast skipper who is then snacking throughout the day, then you might be better off having a small breakfast that keeps you feel satisfied until lunch.

Skipping breakfast works really well for some people as long as they are not subconsciously compensating for it at other times of the day. It has been shown to be supportive for weight loss.

The best meal pattern is the one that feels right to you, not one that has been forced upon you. It is important to bear in mind that if you do skip breakfast, then you have only got two meals in which to get all your nutrients for the day, so make those other meals count!
